Question 1. Explain the following terms:

(a) Continent

A continent is a very large and continuous landmass that forms a major division of the Earth’s surface. There are seven continents on Earth:
Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Antarctica, Europe, and Australia.
Each continent differs in size, climate, people, and natural features.


(b) Ocean

An ocean is a huge body of salty water that covers nearly 71% of the Earth’s surface. All oceans are interconnected and play an important role in controlling climate, supporting sea life, and supplying resources like fish and minerals.
The five major oceans are the Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, Southern, and Arctic Oceans.


(c) Island

An island is a piece of land that is completely surrounded by water on all sides. Islands can be very small or extremely large, such as Greenland. Some islands are formed due to volcanic eruptions, while others are created by erosion or rising sea levels. Examples include Madagascar and the Hawaiian Islands.
