✨ Introduction: A New Way to Learn Social Science

The NCERT Class 6 Social Science syllabus for 2025–26 has been redesigned under the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE) 2023. It follows an integrated and theme-based approach, combining History, Geography, Civics, and Economics into one single learning journey titled “Exploring Society: India and Beyond”.

This change encourages real-world application, critical thinking, and a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness of social life.

📘 Book Title: Exploring Society: India and Beyond

The Class 6 Social Science textbook no longer divides content into separate books. Instead, it follows a thematic structure. Below is a breakdown of the updated syllabus:

🗺️ Unit 1: India and the World – Land and the People

Students explore Earth’s surface, maps, continents, oceans, and how landforms affect human lives.

  • Natural Regions of the World


🏺 Unit 2: Tapestry of the Past

An introduction to how we study history — through objects, writings, and structures — and a glimpse into ancient societies.

  • First Farmers and Herders

  • Cities of the Harappan Civilization


🎨 Unit 3: Our Cultural Heritage and Knowledge Traditions

A celebration of India’s rich culture, traditions, science, and contributions to knowledge.

  • Cultural Expressions of Ancient India

  • Education and Knowledge Systems

  • Language, Art, and Architecture


🏛️ Unit 4: Governance and Democracy

Learners are introduced to the basics of how governments work and how citizens participate in governance.

This unit focuses on everyday economics, livelihoods, types of work, and how people meet their needs.
