Key Developments in India-Pakistan Relations:

🔶 Pakistan’s Military Preparedness and Airspace Restrictions

  • Pakistan’s armed forces have begun military exercises near the Line of Control (LoC) and in the Arabian Sea, signaling heightened alertness.
  • Multiple air routes between Lahore and Islamabad have been shut down.
  • The Pakistani Navy has issued a series of ‘Nav Area’ warnings across its coastal waters.
  • Reports from Islamabad suggest concerns over an imminent Indian military response.

🔶 India’s Strategic Moves in Response

  • India has suspended all mail and parcel exchanges with Pakistan, via both air and surface transport.
    • A notice dated May 3 from the Ministry of Communications confirmed the halt in inbound services.
  • The Government of India has banned the import of all goods from Pakistan, both direct and indirect.
    • This immediate trade ban is aimed at protecting national security and reflects a firm policy stance.

🔶 Economic & Diplomatic Fallout

  • India’s exports to Pakistan during April-January 2024–25 totaled $447.65 million, while imports stood at just $0.42 million.
  • This import ban effectively halts all cross-border trade activity from Pakistan into India.
  • Ahead of a crucial IMF review next week, Pakistan criticized India’s move to involve the global financial body, labeling it as “politically motivated.”
    • Officials cited by The Express Tribune claim it’s part of India’s effort to diplomatically isolate Pakistan.

🇮🇳 PM Modi’s Strong Message

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation, vowing that the terrorists and their conspirators will face unimaginable retribution.
  • He emphasized a national resolve, stating that the collective will of 140 crore Indians will dismantle any remaining terror networks.
  • The PM declared that the era of tolerance towards terrorism is over, marking a new chapter in India’s counter-terrorism efforts.
