Home » Telangana Chemical Factory Blast: 12 Dead, Dozens Injured in Sangareddy District Explosion

A devastating explosion followed by a massive fire at a chemical factory in Telangana’s Sangareddy district has claimed 12 lives and injured over 30 others, according to Telangana Minister Damodara Raja Narasimha.

Fire at Sigachi Pharma in Pasamailaram

The tragic incident occurred at Sigachi Pharma, located in Pasamailaram Phase 1, Medak, late Sunday. According to fire officials, eleven fire tenders were rushed to the scene to battle the intense blaze that erupted after a reactor blast inside the facility.

Rescue and Relief Operations Underway

Authorities confirmed that approximately 15 to 20 individuals sustained injuries in the explosion. Firefighters and rescue teams were quick to respond, and the injured were immediately transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.

In a statement to the press, Minister Damodara Raja Narasimha said:

“So far, 12 people have lost their lives and 34 others are under medical care. We remain hopeful that the death toll will not rise.”

Ongoing Investigation and Rescue

Paritosh Pankaj, Superintendent of Police for Sangareddy, reported that rescue operations are ongoing, and at the time of the incident, no bodies had yet been recovered.

“We are continuing our efforts and will share updates as the situation develops,” he said.

Blast Impact and Eyewitness Accounts

Footage shared by news agency PTI on social media shows thick black smoke engulfing the factory, with emergency personnel actively engaged in fire containment and search efforts. Witnesses say the blast was so powerful it flung workers nearly 100 meters away, trapping some inside nearby tents.

The force of the explosion damaged the structural integrity of the facility, leading to widespread panic among employees. Workers from neighboring units also evacuated as a safety precaution.

Migrant Workers Among Victims

The factory employed several migrant workers from Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, and other states, many of whom are feared to be among the injured. Emergency services, including ambulances from the 108 fleet, were deployed to provide immediate medical assistance.

Conclusion

The cause of the explosion at Sigachi Pharma is still under investigation, with officials working to determine the exact sequence of events that led to the fatal reactor blast. The incident has once again raised concerns over industrial safety protocols in chemical manufacturing units across India.
