Home » India’s Global Diplomatic Push Against Pakistan-Backed Terrorism

India is stepping up its international diplomacy to spotlight and counter terrorism originating from Pakistan. As Pakistan prepares to assume a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the 2025–2026 term, India is working proactively to build strategic alliances with key global players, particularly current and incoming UNSC members. This campaign is part of a larger effort to diplomatically isolate Pakistan and expose its links to terrorist networks.

Targeting UNSC Members: Strengthening Key Alliances

India’s outreach focuses strongly on the five new UNSC members set to join in January 2026: Latvia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Bahrain, Liberia, and Colombia. Indian diplomats are set to engage with these nations to shape their stance on issues related to Pakistan-sponsored terrorism.

Simultaneously, Indian delegations will visit both permanent members (the U.S., U.K., France, and Russia—excluding China due to its close ties with Pakistan) and non-permanent members, including outgoing members like Algeria and Guyana and incoming ones such as Denmark and Greece.

Building Bridges with Muslim-Majority Nations

A major component of India’s strategy involves deeper engagement with influential Muslim-majority countries in West Asia and Southeast Asia. Countries like Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, and Egypt—traditionally sympathetic to Pakistan—are now seen as potential diplomatic partners. With changing regional dynamics and shared concerns about extremism, India is looking to shift their positions through strategic dialogue and cooperation.

G7, BRICS, and African Partnerships

India is also reaching out to G7 nations like Germany, Italy, and Japan, leveraging its growing global stature to build consensus on anti-terror initiatives. In addition, BRICS members such as Brazil and South Africa, along with Ethiopia, which hosts the African Union headquarters, are key targets for diplomatic engagement. These efforts aim to create a strong, diversified support network against terrorism at multilateral forums.

Strategic Diplomacy and Global Messaging

India’s diplomatic mission will be spearheaded by the Foreign Secretary and top officials from the Ministry of External Affairs. Their agenda includes high-level meetings with political leaders, policy think tanks, and international media in target countries. These interactions aim to clearly articulate India’s position on terrorism and counter Pakistan’s influence in shaping global narratives.

Conclusion: Shaping Global Opinion on Terrorism

The core goal of India’s global diplomatic push is to form a coalition of like-minded nations that recognize and address the threat of terrorism stemming from Pakistan. By influencing the global conversation and securing international backing, India seeks to ensure its concerns are reflected in future UNSC deliberations and resolutions.
