Home » History Made: RCB clinch Historic First IPL title completing Virat’s quest of 18 Years

In a historic night at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) finally ended their long wait for an Indian Premier League (IPL) title by defeating Punjab Kings (PBKS) in a nail-biting final. RCB held their nerve to secure a 6-run victory, marking their maiden IPL championship after years of heartbreak and near-misses.

A Gritty Battle Under Lights in Ahmedabad

Chasing a target of 191, Punjab Kings began their innings on a steady note, with Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya looking composed at the crease. The pair built a solid foundation before RCB’s Phil Salt produced a stunning catch to dismiss Arya, turning the tide early in the innings.

Veteran all-rounder Krunal Pandya then stepped up with a brilliant bowling performance, removing both Prabhsimran and the dangerous Josh Inglis in quick succession. PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer suffered an uncharacteristic failure, falling for just 1 run to Romario Shepherd, further derailing the chase.

Despite a spirited effort from Shashank Singh, who fought valiantly in the final overs, Punjab Kings eventually fell short, leaving their quest for a first IPL title still unfulfilled.

Kohli Leads with the Bat, RCB Set a Fighting Total

Earlier in the evening, RCB posted a modest total of 190 for 9 after being put in to bat. Virat Kohli once again proved why he’s the backbone of RCB’s batting line-up, top-scoring with a composed 43 off 35 balls. Captain Rajat Patidar showed early promise but couldn’t convert his start, scoring a brisk 26 off 16 deliveries.

Punjab’s bowlers performed admirably under pressure, using the conditions to their advantage and preventing RCB from running away with the game. Despite the restricted scoreline, RCB’s bowlers and fielders rose to the occasion in the second innings, defending the total with passion and precision.

A Tribute to the Indian Armed Forces

Adding a patriotic touch to the high-voltage final, the stadium’s digital boards proudly displayed messages such as “Honouring the Indian Armed Forces,” “Salute to the Armed Forces,” and “Thank You Armed Forces.” These tributes were visible near the boundary lines and on the lower tier of the world’s largest cricket stadium, reminding fans of the brave individuals who serve the nation.

Final Thoughts

With this dramatic win, Royal Challengers Bengaluru not only lifted their first IPL trophy but also gave their loyal fan base a moment they had been dreaming of for over a decade. As for Punjab Kings, the wait continues, but their journey this season was nothing short of commendable.
