Home » Operation Sindhu: India Expands Iran Evacuation Efforts to Include Nepalese and Sri Lankan Citizens Amid Middle East Tensions

In a powerful display of regional solidarity, India has extended its evacuation operation in Iran—Operation Sindhu—to include citizens from Nepal and Sri Lanka, following official requests from both governments.

The move comes against the backdrop of rising tensions in the Middle East, spurred by Israel’s Operation Rising Lion, which targets Iran’s suspected nuclear activities. Iran has responded with a series of retaliatory measures, prompting safety concerns for foreign nationals in the region.

“In response to requests from the Governments of Nepal and Sri Lanka, the Indian Embassy’s evacuation efforts in Iran will now also include their citizens,” stated the Indian Embassy in Tehran via a post on X (formerly Twitter).

This expansion of Operation Sindhu demonstrates India’s proactive approach and its leadership role as a humanitarian partner in South Asia. The Indian government’s decision reflects its commitment to assisting neighboring countries during international crises.

Assistance Details for Nepalese and Sri Lankan Nationals

  • The Indian Embassy in Tehran will coordinate logistics and provide assistance to Nepalese and Sri Lankan nationals currently stranded in Iran.
  • Citizens of Sri Lanka have been advised to contact the embassy via Telegram or use the emergency contact numbers listed in the official X post.

India’s swift and inclusive action has earned praise across diplomatic circles, highlighting its dedication to regional cooperation, crisis management, and humanitarian assistance.
