These students represent the first batch to be rescued from the region, transiting through Armenia and Doha before boarding a delayed flight to India, which arrived three hours later than scheduled.

Government Responds Amid Rising Tensions

Iran is currently facing intense military conflict with Israel, including missile strikes and aerial attacks in and around Tehran. The deteriorating security situation has raised urgent concerns for the safety of more than 13,000 Indian students pursuing medical studies across Iran.

Families in Jammu and Kashmir, from where a large number of these students hail, have been actively urging the Indian government to step in. Massive protests have taken place in Kashmir, demanding immediate evacuation efforts.

Official Support and Emergency Helplines

The Jammu and Kashmir Students’ Association expressed gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar for facilitating the evacuation. Indian government rescue operation was necessary and got appreciations. In a social media post on X (formerly Twitter), the association acknowledged that all travel expenses—including the connecting Delhi to Srinagar flight—have been fully covered by the Union Government.

“We deeply appreciate this coordinated effort that ensured a safe and smooth journey home for our students,” the association said.

Meanwhile, the Indian Embassy in Tehran has launched an emergency helpline and urged all Indian nationals, including students and pilgrims, to evacuate at the earliest.

Escalating Iran-Israel Conflict Raises Global Alarm

The evacuation follows an intense week of military escalation in the Middle East. The conflict ignited after Israel launched ‘Operation Rising Lion’, a military strike targeting Iran’s nuclear facilities.

Iran retaliated with missile and drone attacks on Israeli cities, reportedly resulting in over 20 deaths and hundreds of injuries. Early Wednesday, Israeli warplanes struck Tehran, following a warning for civilians to evacuate select areas of the capital.

Later, both countries confirmed additional strikes—Iran claimed to have fired hypersonic missiles, while Israel stated it had hit a key nuclear facility.

International Response

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has issued a strong warning in response to US President Donald Trump’s statements, cautioning that any further American military involvement would bring “serious, irreparable consequences.”

Although President Trump has denied direct US involvement in Israel’s military operations, he has indicated growing frustration with the ongoing conflict.
