Home » India Dominates Taiwan Athletics Open 2025 with 16 Medals, Beats Australia & South Korea

India emerged as the undisputed champion at the Taiwan Athletics Open 2025, clinching a record 16 medals – including 12 golds, 3 silvers, and a bronze – to top the medal tally ahead of Australia and South Korea.

Led by standout performers like Annu Rani, Rohit Yadav, Jyothi Yarraji, and Pooja, the Indian athletics team delivered historic performances across track and field events. The championship, held over two days in Taipei, served as a key preparation ground for the World Championships and Paris 2025 Olympic qualifiers.

🥇 India’s Record-Breaking Medal Run: Highlights from Taiwan

The 34-member Indian contingent showcased remarkable consistency and depth, with victories across hurdles, middle-distance races, jumps, throws, and relays.

  • Jyothi Yarraji stormed to gold in the women’s 100m hurdles with a time of 12.99s.
  • Tejas Shirse captured the men’s 110m hurdles in 13.52s.
  • Pooja claimed gold in the 1500m, setting a championship record of 4:11.63.
  • Abdulla Aboobacker soared to gold in the men’s triple jump with 16.21m.
  • Both the men’s and women’s 4x100m relay teams struck gold, with the women breaking the meet record.

Day 2 Dominance:

  • In javelin, Annu Rani (56.82m) and Rohit Yadav (74.42m) clinched gold despite rain-soaked conditions.

Meanwhile, Shaili Singh and Ancy Sojan earned silver and bronze respectively in the women’s long jump, narrowly edged out by Australia’s Delta Amidzovski.

🛤️ Building Momentum: Path to World Stage

Beyond the medal tally, the Taiwan Open was a key milestone in India’s 2025 athletics roadmap. The meet provided crucial world ranking points and exposure for emerging talents.

  • Twinkle Chaudhary secured silver in the 800m, complementing Pooja’s gold.
  • Yashas Palaksha earned silver in the men’s 400m hurdles, clocking a personal best of 49.22s.

Despite the absence of Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra, India’s javelin throwers dominated – underscoring the country’s growing strength in the discipline. The recent successes at the Asian Athletics Championships in Gumi, South Korea, have boosted team morale and shaped confidence for the World Athletics Championships and Olympic qualifiers.

🗣️ AFI: “Indian Athletics Is Rising Fast”

Officials from the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) hailed the team’s performance as a reflection of evolving training methods, athlete development programs, and a deeper talent pipeline.

“The results from Taiwan are a clear indicator of India’s upward trajectory in global athletics. Our athletes are resilient, focused, and technically strong,” said a senior AFI official. “This momentum is critical as we gear up for global challenges ahead.”
